Understanding Flows and Templates
Flows and Templates come hand in hand when describing workflow automation with airSlate:
- Flow is a one-time business process created by setting up step-by-step workflows for documents and forms and automating the process. Flows can be saved as a Template to be used later.
- Template refers to a repeatable business process. You can run multiple Flows with pre-established settings to send documents to different recipients.
For anyone who manages monotonous and similar tasks like sending an invoice or gathering feedback, this type of document automation can truly optimize your efficiency. airSlate offers you a toolkit to design Flows and Templates according to your needs, with Automation and Integration Bots that help simplify the process.

Questions & answers
Dictionaries define a template as a pattern or model that serves to create something. In document management, it refers to a form with a specially set format, generic placeholder text, and blank fields that people can fill out to suit their needs or desires. Flow automation also uses this term. In airSlate, a Template is a repeatable automated process that enables users to run numerous Flows with the same settings and collect up to 20 forms for sending to different recipients.
airSlate is very straightforward, so creating a template will take only a few minutes. In your Workspace, click on the Create New Flow button in the left-side panel. Add your desired forms to your workflow, set up all steps, and install Bots. When ready, save your Flow as a Template to re-use at any moment. You can also save after running a particular Flow. To do this, go to All Flows → select the one you need → click Save as Template. Our airSlate Academy course details how to create a template for a multi-use automated business process. Once you create a new automated workflow and save it as a template, you can get access to it anytime and launch it over and over. To get the one you previously created, find the All Templates option in the side panel of your Workspace. You can also group these automated processes for faster search. You can also find Team Templates (available for particular teammates) and Group Templates (accessible for specific groups of teammates) categories in the side panel.
A document is a specific piece of paperwork created for one-time data fill-out. A template is, on the other hand, a form with pre-designed formatting and multi-use features. They are a significant part of document process automation. You can use them to generate business forms with pre-filled information and send them to recipients as often as you need instead of creating them from scratch.
airSlate offers many solutions for users to increase their productivity. One is a library of pre-built flow automation patterns, which you can find right in your Dashboard. We’ve categorized these by industry (Construction, E-commerce, Education, etc.). The most popular examples are the Sales Order, Sales Invoice, Contract Management flow templates, etc. You can upload the one you require to your Workspace, adjust it, and configure all steps as needed.
Document workflow automation is hard to imagine without templates. They simplify the business form generation process and save users time and effort. airSlate Templates provide the key to greater efficiency and enhanced team collaboration. Take our airSlate Academy training and learn how to configure reusable automated flows, even with minimal technical skills.
