Hi everyone! In today's video I'm going to  share everything you need to know about the   IRS form 1099 miscellaneous. This was actually  a question asked by a subscriber of mine over on   my Facebook page, so if you need some guidance,  be sure to follow me on Facebook and Instagram,   subscribe and comment with your question or video  suggestion. I would love to hear from you! Today   we'll talk about what Form 1099-Misc is; what  type of payments are reported on this form;   what you should do when you receive this form  in the mail. We'll talk about 1099-Misc. versus   1099-NEC. Also, we'll talk about who must file  this form and how you can do it. By the way,   there is an entire video on form 1099-NEC; if  that's the information that you're looking for,   you will find the link to the  video in the description below. 1099-Misc. is a tax form used by both businesses  and individual tax filers to report the payment   and the receipt of qualifying expenses during a  year. The payee (ie. the person who receives a   payment) will use their form 1099-Misc when they  prepare their tax return. The amount reported   on your 1099-Misc. will be treated as revenue (as  income) for tax purposes and you will pay tax on   that amount based on your business structure  and your tax bracket. We'll talk about that   in just a minute. If you are a business owner  and you made payments to employees in excess of   $600 in total during a year, the IRS requires  you to issue form 1099 to them. Employers are   required to have these forms prepared and  filed no later than January the 31st. Now,   I know there is so much information, there  are so many tax forms and navigating your   way through them is extremely confusing. But  a key takeaway from this video that I want   you to remember is that Form 1099-Misc. isn't  used when reporting non-employee compensation   that would be subject to self-employment tax.  For example, if you are a freelancer and you   work on a project for someone, then they pay  you for your services - that payment would   not be reported on your 1099-Misc. It would  need to be reported on IRS form 1099-NEC. 1099-Misc. is used by a variety of businesses but  typically here are some common payments that are   reported on this form. The first type and the most  common one is rent. If you are a tenant, you would   issue a 1099-Misc. to report rent paid to your  landlord or to your property management company   during a calendar year. The second payment type is  reimbursement payments. This is typically common   for contractors who purchase supplies or other  types of items for their clients. So you would   see this among interior designers and construction  or building contractors. These payments would not   be subject to self-employment taxes, by the way.  The third type that I will include here is if you   are lucky enough to win
