How to Telehealth Clinical Assessment

How to Telehealth Clinical Assessment

is for the patient to do a respiratory examination. I ask them to take a deep breath in and out, and to also cough. By observing their breathing patterns and listening for any abnormal sounds, I can assess their respiratory health. The patient can inform me if they have any difficulty breathing, coughing, or if they experience any pain during the examination. Next, I move on to the cardiovascular examination. I ask the patient to feel their pulse on their wrist or neck and count their heart rate. They can also tell me if they have any chest pain or palpitations. This gives me an indication of their cardiovascular health. For the abdominal examination, I instruct the patient to lie down and palpate their abdomen. They can let me know if they experience any pain or discomfort in specific areas. I may also ask them to tap on certain areas of the abdomen to assess for liver or spleen enlargement. Moving on to the musculoskeletal examination, I ask the patient to move their joints and perform certain movements to assess their range of motion and any signs of pain or stiffness. They can also show me any areas of tenderness or swelling. Lastly, for the neurological examination, I may ask the patient to perform some simple tasks such as moving their fingers or toes, walking in a straight line, or balancing on one foot. They can report any abnormalities or difficulties they encounter during these tasks. Throughout the examination, I make sure to ask the patient if they have any other concerns or symptoms that they would like to discuss. I also encourage them to ask any questions they may have. It is important to create a comfortable and open environment for the patient, despite not being physically present with them. Once the examination is complete, I provide a summary of my findings and discuss a treatment plan or further steps with the patient. I also document all the relevant information in the patient's medical record. Overall, conducting a physical examination through telemedicine requires clear communication and coordination with the patient. It may be necessary to provide some guidance or ask the patient to perform certain actions to help assess their physical health.
