As an adult, you can claim marriage or civil union benefits under certain circumstances. If you are filing under age 18 years, you cannot claim the child benefit provided under the Child Tax Credit, and under that, child benefit is limited to income of 25,000 at a time. The most common circumstances can result in higher benefits for childless adults. If your spouse and children are living together, their benefits must be paid to one another. There are two categories of benefits for married couple: Child Credit, which is usually covered by insurance but can be canceled at the end of the current year when you meet certain conditions, and Child Maintenance Service (CMS) which is covered by a disability insurance plan.
